In the boundless, visual and musical outdoor theatre performance WE ARE ALL ASTRONAUTS, Theatre Gajes invites audiences on a space journey to Mars, to experience a ‘coup de foudre’ and return to planet Earth and its inhabitants. In our performance, we focus on an ‘overview effect’ – a change of consciousness in astronauts accompanied by a sense of emotional closeness to Earth despite the great physical distance. We make this tangible for the audience and evoke the feeling of love for Earth – ‘… a pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known’. WE ARE ALL ASTRONAUTS makes you look at that sphere of stone where almost 8 billion people live in a different way. We look at Earth from the universe and fall in love (again) with our home.
The performance takes place on a predetermined route in a city. Our performers – astronauts together with astronauts-in-training (volunteers and the audience) move through the city to the launch pad to Mars. Scenes are performed at four locations along the route. Between scenes, the audience can move along with the performance. The final scene will be staged in one of the city centre squares where the audience will see the launch of the spaceship to Mars.
In our show, we use static and movable objects. Some actors move on stilts and others on movable objects. Throughout the show, there is live music. The show is filled with humour and live music.
