WATERLAND

An outdoor theater performance about swimming, drowning or adapting. A co-production with Jori Hermsen Productions

When there is nothing left but water. Only a boat, floating debris and the hope on land. How do you survive then? And why would you want to do that in the first place, survive? How does life regain meaning on a vast expanse of just water? WATERLAND is a visual, musical, (despite the heavier theme) humorous and moving outdoor performance.

A performance about four people endlessly bobbing on the sea. Will they manage to build a new existence or will they go under?

“Water is coming!” The effects of climate change are increasingly being discussed. The image of the flooded Netherlands is no longer seen as a dystopia, but as a certain future that will not be long in coming. With Rutger Bregman’s letter to all the Dutch, we also woke up and felt the need to explore the new proposed future, because what if there is nothing but water…

The WATERLAND project serves as a springboard for new young makers in the outdoor theater genre. A genre with a future full of promise because a diverse, inclusive and large audience can be reached here. In this performance we work with 2 young artists who just graduated from the University of Art, 2 young artist about to begin at their studies and 2 experiences artists – both actors and musicians. WATERLAND is therefore not only an important project in terms of content, but also in social goals that it sets for itself.

The duration of the performance is 25 minutes. Potential audience outreach is 500 spectators per show.
