When there is nothing left but water. Just a boat, floating debris and the hope of land. How do you survive then? And why would you even want to, survive? How does life regain meaning on a vast expanse of just water? WATERLAND is a visual, musical, (despite its heavier subject matter) humorous and moving outdoor performance.
A performance about four people endlessly bobbing on the sea. Will they manage to build a new existence or will they go under?
‘Water is coming!’ There is increasing talk about the effects of climate change. The image of the flooded Netherlands is no longer seen as a dystopia, but as a certain future that will not be long in coming. With Rutger Bregman’s letter to all Dutch people, we too woke up and felt the need to explore the new proposed future, because what if there is nothing but water…
The project WATERLAND serves as a springboard for new young creators in the outdoor theatre genre. A genre with a promising future because a diverse, inclusive and large audience can be reached here. In this performance, we work with 2 young artists who have just graduated from art school, 2 young artists who are about to start their studies and 2 experienced artists – both actors and musicians. WATERLAND is therefore an important project not only in terms of content, but also in terms of the social goals it sets for itself.
